Connected by Glass!
“Connected by Glass!” is a project by the town of Železný Brod and the Municipal Museum in Železný Brod. Funded by the EEA and Norway Grants, the purpose of the project is to strengthen the management of cultural heritage through the revitalisation of the museum premises in order to ensure optimal conservation of the collections. In addition, it aims to create an innovative approach to the presentation of collections, and further initiatives that will lead to the deepening of bilateral cooperation and the development of the region. The total amount of the EEA and Norway Grants is 28,166,983CZK . https://www.eeagrants.cz/
The project was launched on April 1, 2021 and will conclude on April 30, 2024.
WHAT IS THE PROJECT ABOUT?
New exhibitions and digitalisation
The most obvious part of the project is the construction of a new, modern and interactive exhibition and renovation of visitor facilities. For this reason, the museum will be closed in 2023. The modernisation of our museum will also be marked by digitisation. A significant part of the collection will be digitised to be available online. We will digitise the new exhibition and place it on our website as a virtual tour. The project also includes the professional documentation of the historical glass collection.
International Summer Glass Workshop Symposium
The Summer Glass Workshop, held in collaboration with the museum, the Secondary School of Applied Arts, the Town of Železný Brod and the Detesk company, is a prestigious event for glass artists. Each year four artists are selected to participate in the symposium. With the help of the project, two Norwegian glass artists will participate in the symposium in 2021, 2022 and 2023. The Symposium will thus become even more prestigious and help to establish close relations with the Norwegian glass community. International cooperation will raise the profile of the phenomenon of artistic glassmaking in Železný Brod.
Following in the footsteps of Střípek the Elf
The museum supports the preservation and development of the glassmaking tradition. For this reason, a family game “Following in the footsteps of Střípek the Elf”, previously run by the Železný Brod tourist information centre, was included in the project. The cooperation with Železný Brod tourist information centre, local glass entrepreneurs and other participants in the project will contribute to the economic and social development of the town, while building a valuable and lasting dialogue between those involved in glassmaking.
Romani people and glass
The objective of the museum is to develop and reflect the phenomenon of Železný Brod glassmaking, which includes a wide range of detailed research. This is why we took the decision to map the contribution and role of the local Roma community in local glass production. We undertook research on the topic of Romani people and glass, the result of which will form part of the new exhibition at the museum. In cooperation with the Museum of Romani Culture, we held an exhibition of works by Rudolf Dzurko, an artist who used coloured glass in his work. In order to involve the local Roma community in the legacy of glassmaking, the museum ran three workshops with glassmaking themes for Roma children as part of the project.
