Ethnography Exhibition

The Ethnography Exhibition is housed in the largest timbered building in Železný Brod, built in 1807 and known as Běliště. Each of the nine rooms focuses on a specific area of the history of Železný Brod and its immediate surroundings.

Geological Development of the Železný Brod Region 

Visitors can see exhibits documenting the geological development of the Železný Brod region with examples of the use of minerals mined in the area – slate, limestone and iron ore. There are also archaeological findings from the nearby Návarov Castle, samples of seals and copies of historical documents showing the historical development of the town. There is an old school classroom, articles from the guilds, a cobbler’s corner with spindles, shoe trees and other equipment. One of the rooms features a re-creation of a baker’s workshop with an oven, a bread bucket and paddle for making dough and, above all, a display of wooden, richly carved gingerbread moulds.

Rural Cottage 

In the Běliště area, visitors are introduced to the interior of a country cottage, where they can see everyday objects, decorated furniture, and rural and urban festive clothing. The folk craftsmanship of our ancestors is displayed both in exhibits and in drawings of folk architecture by Josef V. Scheybal. In the attic there are wooden box cribs and models of town houses that used to stand on the square in Železný Brod. One of the popular attractions for visitors is a working street organ with 9 melodies, which is still often played in Běliště.
